01Who we are
OpenManga (“OpenManga”, “we”, “us”) makes the OpenManga app for iPhone, iPad and Android, and the website at open-manga.app. This policy explains what information we collect, why we collect it, who we share it with, and the choices you have.

02What we collect
Information you give us
- Account details. If you sign up with email, your email address and a password. We store only a scrambled version of the password, never the password itself. If you use Sign in with Apple or Google, we receive a unique ID from them and, if you choose to share them, your name, email address and profile picture. If you continue as a guest, the app creates a random ID on your device so we can recognize it.
- Your pages and translations. The pictures you add (from your photos, camera or files, or shared from another app), the translated versions we make, the text we find on the pages and its translation, and the language and AI you picked.
- Lines you listen to. When you tap play on a line, we use the text of that line to create the audio.
- Messages. If you email us, we keep your message and our reply.
Information we get automatically
- Account activity. Your credit balance and history, your subscription status and renewal dates, how many lines you have listened to today, and when you last signed in.
- Device and app details. Your phone’s platform (iOS or Android), its model and system version, the app version, the app language you use, and the country your connection comes from (worked out from your IP address, which we don’t store with your account).
- Advertising measurement. If advertising measurement is enabled in the build, Meta and RevenueCat may receive your resettable advertising identifier (Google Advertising ID or Apple IDFA where permission is granted), Meta’s per-install anonymous identifier, IP address, app version and limited app events such as opening the app, completing onboarding or registration, viewing the purchase screen and starting checkout. We do not send your manga pages, translated text or password with these events.
- Technical logs. Like most services, our servers and hosting providers record things such as your IP address, device type, the time of each request and any errors. We use these to keep OpenManga secure and working.
Information from the app stores
When you buy a subscription or credits, Apple or Google takes the payment. We learn what you bought and whether it is active, but we never see your payment card or billing details.
Permissions on your phone
The app asks to use your photos or camera only when you choose to add a page, and to save to your photos only when you tap save. You can turn these off any time in your phone’s settings.
What we don’t collect
OpenManga does not show third-party ads. We don’t read your contacts or precise location, and we don’t use a hardware identifier such as your IMEI or MAC address for advertising.
03How we use it
We use your information to:
- translate your pages and read lines out loud to you;
- run your account, your credits and your subscription;
- keep OpenManga safe, and prevent fraud and misuse;
- fix problems and make the app better;
- measure whether our own advertising campaigns lead to app installs, registrations and purchases;
- answer your messages; and
- meet our legal obligations.
We don’t use your pages for advertising, and we don’t sell them.
If you live in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, our legal reasons for using your information are: to provide the service you asked for (contract), to keep it secure and improve it (legitimate interests), your permission where we ask for it, for example for photos and camera access (consent), and to follow the law (legal obligation).
05How long we keep it
- Pages and translations stay until you delete them. When you delete a page or a whole record, the files are removed from our storage.
- Your account stays until you delete it. Deleting your account permanently removes your account, pages, translations, credits and history.
- Some billing and security records may be kept for a limited time where we need them for accounting, fraud prevention or legal reasons.
- Backups and logs may keep copies for a short while before they are overwritten.
Guest accounts work the same way: they stay until you delete them.
06Your choices and rights
In the app
- Delete a single page, or a whole set of pages, any time.
- Delete your account in Settings, under “Delete account” (how it works).
- Sign out, change the app language, or switch between light and dark.
- Turn off photo and camera access in your phone’s settings.
- Reset or delete the Google Advertising ID in Android privacy settings. On iPhone or iPad, you can deny or revoke tracking permission under Settings, Privacy & Security, Tracking.
By email
You can ask us for a copy of your information, to correct it, or to delete it. Email [email protected] from the address on your account. We may need to check that it’s really you before we act.
If you live in the EEA or the UK
You have the right to access, correct and delete your information, to ask us to limit or stop using it, to receive it in a portable format, and to withdraw consent at any time. You can also complain to your local data protection authority.
If you live in California
You have the right to know what personal information we collect and how we use it, to ask us to delete or correct it, and to be treated equally if you use these rights. We don’t sell or share personal information for advertising.
07Children
OpenManga isn’t meant for children under 13, or under the minimum age in your country if it’s higher. We don’t knowingly collect information from them. If you think a child has given us information, email [email protected] and we’ll delete it.
08Keeping it safe
We protect your information in transit with encryption, store passwords in scrambled form, keep your sign-in on your phone in secure storage, and limit who can access our systems. No service is perfectly secure, so we can’t promise absolute security, but we take it seriously.
09Where your information goes
We and our providers work in several countries, so your information may be handled outside the country where you live, including in the United States. Where the law requires it, we rely on appropriate safeguards for these transfers.
10Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we’ll change the date at the top, and if the change is important we’ll tell you in the app or by email.
